[April 2016] State of the Community - ☭ Prince Taurvi

State of the Community Thread (Link)

Hello everybody,

First and foremost, thank you everybody who still comes to the forums and our servers. You are the people who keep the community alive at the end of the day.

I do sincerely apologize for not being the most active as these last 6 months have been a rollercoaster for myself. I have been extremely busy between finishing up my degree and getting a job, both of which I have successfully accomplished.

As some of you have noticed, two of our servers have disappeared - Murder and TG Experimental. In addition to downsizing our servers slightly, I have moved us to a lower costing plan (less RAM/CPU) in order to better suit our current situation and player base. Rather than burning in excess of ~$500/6 months, we are now spending around $150/6 months, which is much more manageable.

So what does this mean for the future? Well, there have always been two major obstacles for TG -- Money and Players.

Our community is unique because we do not charge for use of our servers nor do we sell positions on our moderation team. Despite that, we have survived for over 4 years thanks to generous donations from the community and the blood, sweat, and tears of my predecessor, Talmera. Having recently acquired a job, it means that I can secure our financials for the foreseeable future at the cost of spending much less time running the community. With that said, any contributions to the community fund are always welcome.

TG has always been a tightly knit community of players and that is still reflective of our community today. What this means it that there is a tendency for servers to get populated when certain people are on and then depopulated when those people leave. In addition, there are always new games for people to play and not all of them are as accessible to others.

With all of that said, I am interested in rebuilding this community. This is not an easy task nor is it something that I can do alone. I ask that you all join me in trying to accomplish this feat. Whether it is through helping moderate our servers, helping establish new ones, or even creating times for people to get together. I ask that you all join me in this momentous task.
